Why You Should Probably Get a Whole House Filter

It turns out love isn’t all you need – you need water too. Clean water at that. There’s a reason you shouldn’t drink the water in Mexico. Aging municipal water systems can leave a lot of bad stuff in the water, stuff that you could put in your body without a whole house filter. A good water filter for your home can actually save you money – two hundred to three hundred dollars a year, in fact, saved from bottled water expenses.

A whole house filter simply connects to your main water line, cleaning it before it ever reaches your toilets, showers and faucets. While people with complicated water lines might find it difficult to have one installed, it is well worth the effort when you realize the many reasons you should get one installed.

You might not know it, but those chemicals in the water can actually become airborne. In fact, that constantly happens – dishwashers, showers and toilets tend to splatter and when it splatters, certain chemicals can make it to the air. This generally results in poor air quality, which would lead to respiratory issues such as bronchitis and asthma. That is also an argument against relying on a countertop water filter. While that might be able to protect from most water contaminants, it won’t protect against the more dangerous stuff and definitely not from the chemicals that can end up in the air.

Chlorine is sometimes added to clean the water and there are times when there’s too much chlorine or when it simply stays in the water. Various skin irritations can be attributed to chlorine staying in the water. You can get those irritations from showering in heavily chlorinated water or even in clothes washed in chlorinated water. In fact, over two thousand water contaminants can actually cause havoc on our bodies not just from consumption, but through skin absorption and inhalation.

If you really want to be sure, the whole house filter is what you should be looking for. The only way to make sure that each water source has been treated is to handle things at the source of the water. This method actually becomes more and more effective the more people there are in a single household.

If you’re convinced that you need to get a whole house filter, the next step is to figure out what you actually need to remove from your particular water supply. The most common things to remove are chlorine, hardness minerals and sediment, but if you’re not working with a municipal water supply it might be best to get your water tested so that you can get the proper filter installed and make your water safer to be around.
